With the Lahore Qalandars’ triumph in the eighth round of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) yesterday, Shaheen Shah Afridi, their captain, has drawn attention (Saturday).

Supporters still reeling from the spectacular final between the Qalandars and Multan Sultans when they divert by a picture of Shaheen and his wife, Ansha Afridi.

The husband and wife can be seen taking selfies with the PSL 8 trophy in the Gaddafi Stadium, where the Qalandars makes history by becoming the first club to win consecutive PSL championships.

Many thought Ansha’s attendance influenced Shaheen’s performance in the championship game.

Other internet users, however, claim that Ansha’s older sister Aqsa Afridi depicted in viral photographs on social media.

When Aqsa’s image from the stadium went viral on Twitter and showed her cheering on Shaheen after he scored multiple goals, many people mistook her for Ansha due to their similar facial features.

Shaheen, a well-known bowler, wed Ansha on February 3 at a local mosque in Karachi after a two-year engagement.

The previous day, Multan’s Khushdil Shah tries to make a third run to force a super over, but a run-out makes at the bowler’s end. Khushdil Shah struck a fast 44 without knockout in the final, taking 4-51.

The Qalandars finished with 200-6 in their 20 overs, and the Sultans finished 199-8 in front of a crowd of 25,000 spectators at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

The Qalandars had also defeated the Sultans in the final the year before.

Shaheen let up 34 runs in his first two overs, as the Sultans raced to 101-1 in just ten overs.

Many thought newlywed Ansha was there to support her husband. Unfortunately for Shaheen, it was her older sister Aqsa and not Ansha.

Several of Shaheen’s fervent supporters clarified on Twitter that she was Aqsa, while other lovers perplex as to whether she was Ansha.

Maulana Abdul Sattar performed the Nikah at the Zakaria Mosque, and the bride’s Rukhsati came next.

The former athlete congratulated the couple on their nuptials and said Shaheen received his daughter as part of the ceremony.
